DC Hub to Close October 4th. Goodbye to an old friend!

Patabugen wrote:The DC hub has served us thousands of games during it's two year life. It started out as the Arcers.net rogue server which I took control of in the final year of ARC. After the closure of ARC and the birth of Spark I transformed the server to be the first Spark Hub outside of Codemallet.

Born "US | DC 2", Spark's growing popularity meant the lobby server needed a machine to itself and the original DC hub was closed and DC 2 was renamed to simply "US | DC".

For the past year it has been kept going by numerous donations drives, without which the Hub would have closed long ago.

Since becoming a Spark Hub it has cost more than $1600 to keep running, with $489 of that coming from Donations and $354 from Kahn's 6 month sponsorship.

Until the launch of the New Jersey hub in August 2009 DC was the most popular hub on Spark.

Recently however, the cost of DC vs it's power and usage has not been so favourable. Our NJ hosts more games at a lower cost, and whilst there are no concrete plans for a replacement for DC we will set up a new hub should we see the demand, probably in Atlanta or NJ.

Our old friend DC will be closing on October 4th.

Anyone that is interested in sponsering a Atlanta hub can contact me i can get one at a discounted rate. you can do as i did and find a friend in the community to help you out (braveheart graciously provided half the money for the year lease on Jersey) I can have you a server hosted in Atlanta, Fremount CA, Dallas Tx, or if you feel the need for another Jersey we can enlarge the one we have with more memory and bandwidth to host more games. currently a year lease runs $440 for one year no interuptions. that includes a 20mbit connection 720mb ram 400gb monthly transfer (we only use on average 50 to 80) if you want to pay month to month i can work with you on that.

well if the two of you want to get some people together and get the money up we can get one hosted the full cost for one year looks to be 432 dollars if you want the bigger server or a 540mb server which i would guess could hold 40 players and 3 to 4 open games from my guesses would be 325 dollars.

Well if people want to get a pot going or something we can get a dallas server. I can not afford to have to servers at the momment it maybe 6 to 7 months before that changes. But if someone wants to talk to me about maybe putting together a paypal pot or something maybe the admins can try to put something together collect the money and i will get a dallas server up and running. There is also Atlanta and Fremont, Ca available.
